Bio

Drummer, Multi Instrumentalist and Performer

Himadri Sekhar Das specialize in a wide variety of percussion instruments — from acoustic and electronic drums (including V-drums) to hand drums, tabla, cajón, khanjira, khol, dholak, djembe, darbuka, thumba, bongos, and full percussion ensembles. My musical style leans toward progressive-conceptual and Indian classical fusion, but I’m also comfortable playing global genres like rock, pop, hip-hop, blues, funk, Latin, and even a touch of swing.

My performance journey began in 2005 when I joined 5th Dimension, a well-known classic rock band in Kolkata, and we recorded one album called Ghoom Bhenge Jaye. Between 2011 and 2018, I was part of the Kolkata-based progressive rock band Alienz — performing nearly 500 shows across India and contributing to their albums Swapno Noe and Jorimana.

In 2015, I co-founded an instrumental fusion band called Beat Blasters with Soumyojit & Sourendra, and in 2016, I recorded drums for their albums along with Violin Brothers for Banjara and Just 10.

In 2017, with Beat Blasters, I toured internationally — performing in China, Muscat (Oman), Bangladesh, and the USA. The following year, I joined the Baul-rock outfit Bolepur Bluez (often spelled Bolpur Blues) with Kartick Das Baul. During 2018, we toured Bangladesh, Assam, the US, and Rajasthan.

In 2019, I did tours across Bombay, North Bengal, Bangladesh, and made my third trip to the USA. In 2021, I went on a world tour with Padmashri Sonu Nigam.

I’ve collaborated with several renowned artists — notably Latin Grammy-winner Ivan Santos, Marc Inti, and Angela Frontera. I’ve also performed with many big names from Bollywood, including Asha Bhosle, Hariharan, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Usha Uthup, Jeet Ganguly, Rekha Bharadwaj, plus international artists like George Brooks and Ivan Santos.
