Hertz announces the launch of the HZ CL5, a 5-string electric bass designed to bring the familiar character of a classic J-style instrument together with the extended range and flexibility demanded by modern bassists. Built around a lightweight Poplar body, satin-finished Maple neck, and Maple fingerboard with black block inlays, the HZ CL5 delivers a comfortable playing experience with a distinctive visual character. Its 34" scale length and 21 stainless steel frets provide a familiar feel while offering the extended low-end range of a 5-string configuration.
The passive J-J pickup configuration delivers a familiar and expressive bass voice, covering warm, rounded lows, articulate mids, and defined highs. The 5-string configuration adds an extended low-B range, giving players greater flexibility across contemporary styles and arrangements.
With a straightforward 2V, 1T control layout, the HZ CL5 keeps tonal shaping intuitive while allowing the character of the bass and the player’s technique to remain at the centre of the sound.
The HZ CL5 combines familiar J-style ergonomics with the added range of a 5-string platform, making it suitable for players working across a wide range of musical environments.
